About This Project
Six years in and the neighbors start asking in early October when the next Rosewood Halloween Trick or Treat map will be posted. It began as a one-off project during an unprecedented global crisis and it has become a yearly tradition that has brought so many folks together.
It all started back in 2020. COVID-19 had started to spread worldwide— then came the quarantines and the lockdowns. We were all asked to stay home for two weeks in March, which then turned into an indefinite practice of social-distancing, masking, working from home, avoiding large groups, and eventually vaccinations. Our whole world felt like it had turned upside-down. I won't rehash the whole thing here because it was ✨traumatic✨ for many folks (myself included).
By the time October 2020 rolled around, neighbors were asking how their kids could possibly experience some level of normal childhood fun by trick or treating safely. That's when I decided to make the first Rosewood Halloween Trick or Treat map. I asked all participants who signed up to make sure that they adhered to CDC Halloween safety guidelines. That year, we had 66 participants and I believe that was the first year we had the (socially distant) Rosewood Park Halloween Parade created by another awesome Rosewood neighbor.
Each year, the map has grown and many folks now regard it as a Rosewood tradition. I love that I have been able to contribute in a small way toward bringing neighbors together to enjoy good times with one another each year. 🧡
